Neighbourhood Profiles: Shea Heights

Shea Heights / Blackhead, a neighbourhood overlooking the city, was settled in the 1930's and officially became a part of St. John's in 1984. A tight-knit community featuring a community centre, school, medical facilities, folk festival, historical sites, and recreational fields and trails, Shea Heights/Blackhead is a wonderful spot to live, visit, and play.

This neighbourhood contains recognized historical, cultural, and social areas. These are inclusive within the boundaries of this profile with respect to their established identities, assets, and residents. 

COMMUNITY CENTRE 

The City of St. John’s Recreation Division, in partnership with the Shea Heights Community Centre Board of Directors, offers residents in the community a variety of programs and services from the Shea Heights Community Centre at 130 Linegar Avenue

Amenities include a multi-purpose room, kitchen, post office services, baseball field, skate park, dog park, and meeting space. For more information email recreation@stjohns.ca

DID YOU KNOW?
 
The community of Blackhead, a small traditional fishing village between St. John's and Cape Spear, had settlers pre-dating 1879. This small community is known for its historical one room schoolhouse, fishing history, and is a popular hub for hikers of the East Coast Trail.
